SMOK’s Nord pod vape series has progressively gained more adjustable settings and complexity with each new iteration. The Nord Pro pares it back to simplified operation like the original Nord. Gone are adjustable wattage, a display screen, and airflow controls.

Instead, the Nord Pro focuses on delivering a straightforward yet flavorful vape. Does stripping functionality hinder the experience? This extensive hands-on review assesses if the Nord Pro finds the right balance between simple and satisfying.

Build Quality and Design

Immediately identifiable as a Nord device, the Pro sports a slim, rounded rectangle shape with similar proportions to the first Nord. It measures 96mm tall by 29mm wide and 18.9mm deep with an ultralight weight of just 80g. The size hits a sweet spot for portability without feeling insubstantial.

Despite lacking a display or adjustment buttons, the aesthetics remain modern and attractive. Painted finishes and accent lines provide visual flair. The embedded front button and branding integrate cleanly. Overall construction quality proves solid with no flaws emerging during testing.

While internal battery capacity drops to 1100mAh, it still delivers ample runtime for a full day of steady vaping. Quick USB-C charging mitigates any battery limitations. Build and design-wise, the Nord Pro retains the essence of a quality pod system.

Straightforward Controls and Operation

The Nord Pro uses straightforward single button operation:

• Turn on/off with 5 clicks
• Fire by button or autodraw
• Toggle button lockout with 3 clicks
• Check battery by 2 clicks
• Open fill port to refill pod
• Flip pod to switch airflow

No menu navigation or settings adjustment needed. Just fill, insert the pod, and start vaping. The simplicity benefits new vapers. But even experienced users may find the back to basics approach refreshing.

Adjustable Airflow Without Controls

Ingeniously, rotating the pod itself toggles between direct lung and mouth to lung airflow. One side has “MTL”, the other “DL” – just match it to the battery arrow for your desired vape style. The tightness further depends on the coil used.

Having two draw style options without complex controls proves clever. And it takes seconds to flip the pod and switch things up. The simple adjustability caters to both restrictive lung hits and tighter MTL draws with the right coils.

Pod and Coil Performance

The Nord Pro uses proprietary Nord Pro-Meshed coils and 3.3ml pods. Previous Nord coils won’t fit, but it takes a variety of original Nord and Nord DC coils for flexibility. The kit includes 0.6ohm direct lung and 0.9ohm mouth to lung coils.

I encountered no leaking or performance issues with the pods after heavy use. They last through weeks of refilling. Changing coils takes moments by popping open the coil catch and swapping them out. Wicking keeps up with 70VG juice without dry hits.

Both the 0.6ohm and 0.9ohm coils deliver extremely impressive flavor. The mesh heating and cotton wicking optimize the juice for robust taste in a low wattage pod system. They easily compete with box mods for nuanced flavors.

Vaping Experience

Testing across a 50/50 and 70VG juice range, the Nord Pro reliably output pure, saturated flavor. The 0.9ohm coil shone the brightest at around 12-15W with nicotine salts, especially on a tighter MTL draw. I could taste every creamy and fruity note.

The 0.6ohm coil worked best from 15-20W for a warm restricted direct lung hit using freebase juice. Closing down the airflow enabled a very nice, loose MTL as well. Vapor stayed dense, warm, and full of flavor.

Leaving the airflow open on both coils results in a airier draw, but adjusting it with the pod orientation dialed it in for my preferences. Overall, the Nord Pro delivers extremely impressive performance rivaling much costlier setups.

By going back to basics, SMOK’s Nord Pro retains the essence of what makes pod vaping appealing. It strips away needless complexity in favor of portability and gratifying flavor.

While the lower battery capacity compared to past Nords proves slightly disappointing, the quick charges minimize inconvenience. Leaks are also minor and rare. For incredibly simple yet effective pod vaping, the Nord Pro hits all the high notes.
