The Belgian government has announced plans to ban all e-cigarette flavors, with the sole exception of tobacco, in a move aimed at protecting youth. Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke stated the ban is mandatory following updated recommendations from the Superior Health Council, which now prioritizes shielding young people over the potential benefits of flavors for adult smokers.
Vandenbroucke argued that flavored vapes are designed to attract children and mask health risks. While no implementation date has been set, the minister intends to enforce the ban “as soon as possible.” This decision comes amidst alarming statistics: a national survey revealed nearly a third of Belgian school students have tried vaping, with weekly usage among youth quadrupling over the last five years.
This flavor ban builds on previous measures targeting teenage nicotine use, including restrictions on single-use vapes and smoking in youth-frequented areas.
