The Malaysian government is moving forward with plans to implement a complete ban on e-cigarettes and vape products, according to Health Minister Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad. A Cabinet Memorandum (MJM) detailing the proposal is being finalized and is expected to be tabled early next year.
“We are moving towards a ban,” Dr. Dzulkefly confirmed, estimating implementation by mid-2026 or late next year. The decision is driven by escalating health risks associated with vaping, including the alarming discovery of liquids contaminated with banned substances like synthetic cannabis.
A special committee is currently studying the societal and legal implications of the ban. Previously, the Health Minister indicated the prohibition would be rolled out in stages, starting with open-system devices before encompassing all vape types.
