The UK Government has announced proposals to curb the marketing of vaping products to children. Under the new plans, vapes will undergo a shift to plain white packaging, be kept out of sight in retail stores, and face strict flavor restrictions.
Health and Social Care Secretary James Murray stated that while vapes help adult smokers quit, they must not be designed or marketed to tempt children. The consultation follows the Tobacco and Vapes Act, which received Royal Assent on April 29, 2026, and builds on the ban on single-use vapes implemented on June 1, 2025.
Local authorities have welcomed the move. Cllr Dr Wendy Taylor, chair of the Local Government Association’s Health and Wellbeing Committee, noted that councils have long sought an end to vapes being designed like sweets and sold near children’s confectionery.
The government has outlined several key implementation dates for upcoming tobacco and vape regulations:
- October 1, 2026: Introduction of the Vaping Products Duty.
- October 29, 2026: Bans on vape sales from vending machines and their free distribution.
- June 1, 2027: End of all vape advertising and sponsorship.
- EU Proposes 139% Cigarette Tax Hike and New Levies on Vapes - August 21, 2026
- UAE Vape Tax: Minimum Excise Price Starts September 1 - August 20, 2026
- Belgium Bans Terrace Smoking and Vaping Starting 2027 - August 12, 2026
