Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins signed legislation banning the sale of “camouflaged” vaping devices. This measure targets products designed to look like common school supplies, such as highlighters, USB drives, and pens, to prevent minors from acquiring electronic cigarettes.
Under the new law, businesses caught selling these deceptive products face fines ranging from $300 to $1,500 for a first violation. The Westchester County Board of Health will oversee enforcement of the ban.
County officials stated that these innocent-looking devices are manufactured to target children and draw them into nicotine addiction.
Additionally, the County Board of Legislators is reviewing a separate bill. If passed, this second measure would allow the Board of Health to enforce a ban on local businesses possessing flavored nicotine vape products.
